About Rock Island Residents Directory

Rock Island no longer has one book naming everyone in town. Useful evidence is divided among the county assessor, elections office, Recorder, courts, and the library's long run of printed city directories. We organize those sources so a name, current street, or historic address leads to the correct official roll or collection.

Why We Built This Reference

Printed directories faded, yet their underlying records remained with different custodians. Ownership material sits with the Rock Island County assessment and Recorder offices. Registration evidence is controlled by Illinois election law. Historical volumes are held by Rock Island Public Library, Augustana College, and the Illinois State Archives. We brought the verified search routes, contacts, coverage periods, and access limits into one Rock Island reference.

What You Will Find Here

  • Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
  • The rolls and offices: assessor, recorder, elections office, court clerk, vital records, the library's local history collection
  • Walkthroughs: how to trace who lives on a street, how to read a directory entry, how to follow a household across the decades
  • Access rules: what Illinois law opens, what stays closed, and how a records request works when something is not online

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately run reference site with no connection to any Rock Island office, Rock Island County department, Illinois agency, court, or library. Some firm limits apply:

  • We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Rock Island
  • We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
  • We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
  • We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
  • We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment

Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
